When you’ve got a 9-5 and a travel bucket list that’s always growing, getting strategic with those precious PTO days is a must. The key? Planning ahead to maximize your time off!

In this post, I’m breaking down how to use just 11 PTO days in 2025 to get a whopping 44 days off. Yep, you read that right—44 days to make those dream adventures happen. Let’s dive into the details!

How to Maximize Your PTO in 2025

With 11 public holidays on the calendar in 2025, there are plenty of chances to extend your weekends without using up too much PTO. From mid-January getaways to a Thanksgiving adventure, here’s how to stretch those days.

Public Holidays in 2025:

  • January 1: New Year’s Day

  • January 20: MLK Jr. Day

  • February 17: Presidents’ Day

  • May 26: Memorial Day

  • June 19: Juneteenth

  • July 4: Independence Day

  • September 1: Labor Day

  • October 13: Indigenous Peoples’ Day

  • November 11: Veterans Day

  • November 27: Thanksgiving

  • December 25: Christmas Day


Start the New Year Right (5 Days Off, 2 PTO Days)


Use two PTO days to turn the New Year’s holiday into a solid five-day getaway:

  • December 28-29: Weekend

  • December 30-31: PTO

  • January 1: New Year’s Day


Beat the January Blues (4 Days Off for MLK Jr. Day, 1 PTO Day)


By mid-January, the winter blues can hit hard. Extend your weekend with just one PTO day for a four-day recharge:

  • January 18-19: Weekend

With Juneteenth landing on a Thursday, take the Friday off for a four-day weekend:
